Cyltronic IO-Link servo actuators — move more intelligently

Mechanical engineering is often about moving things, moving tools into position or loading and unloading processing rooms into machines. Linear machine movements are achieved with actuators, and the Cyltronic concept makes design and operation easier.

Why are conventional actuators reaching their limits: pneumatics vs. electric drives?

Depending on the type of movement required, pneumatic cylinders or electric actuators are usually used. Although pneumatic cylinders are inexpensive to buy and have a defined installation space, they require compressed air to operate — and that is loud “https://energie.ch/druckluft/” one of the most expensive sources of drive. In addition, they are fixed to a movement pattern — changes require considerable effort.

In conventional servo applications, a motor, the transmission, the controller and, if necessary, other components are combined. Control with a servo controller takes up valuable space in the control cabinets. The price is increased space requirements, higher costs and complicated setup.

Combining efficiency and simplicity: An overview of the benefits of Cyltronic actuators

No compressed air, quick and easy set-up, cost-effective purchase? Cyltronic actuators combine all necessary components in one system: The servo motor, ball spindle and servo controller are compactly combined in a housing with the installation length of an ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder. The Cyltronic rotary drive without a ball screw, as a servomotor with integrated servo controller, is based on the same principle.

Only three questions need to be answered for control: How strong? How fast? How far? These parameters are either set digitally on the cylinder or specified in real time during the process via the IO-Link communication interface. The IO-Link connection stands for improved process quality, faster integration and uniform programming. The most important advantage of controlling Cyltronic actuators via IO-Link is the ability to target any position, even with defined power and speed — ready for Industry 4.0.

With the same installation length of a 32-cylinder pneumatic cylinder, Cyltronic actuators combine all components of a conventional servo application. They are delivered with different motor strengths of up to 1500 N and speeds of up to 1200 mm/s and in stroke lengths of up to 1000 mm.

In design, this means that instead of many different combinations, only one device type must be considered — suitable CAD data is available for download on the website. The Cyltronic IO-Link actuators only require a power cable and a signal cable — that's it. If several Cyltronic actuators are used in a system, all that is required is to adapt the specific parameters to the current application.
